NFL network examines the QB battles in Arizona and Charlotte. See it here.

New Philadelphia Eagles starter Kevin Kolb received lucrative new one year extension worth $12.5million. The structure of the extension allows for the pushing of the guaranteed portion into the uncapped year as an upfront payment.  Kolb assumed the starting spot after the trade of Donovan McNabb and the 25yo now gets paid in recognition of his new role. Eagles fans will be watching closely to see if he is worth the money and the loss of their beloved son McNabb.

That is what Todd McShay is suggesting as he continues his ritualistic mockery of the draft. McShay has Andrew Luck of Stanford, Jake Locker of Washington, Ryan Mallett of Arkansas as First Rounders with Florida State’s Christian Ponder as a possibility. Luck will just be a redshirt sophomore this year, but so many are touting his virtues and maturity. Of course it is super early days, because at this point a year ago, McShay had Jevan Snead in the Top 10.

Clausen in 2

April 27, 2010

New Carolina QB Jimmy Clausen will wear #2 for the Panthers as just revealed today. Clausen wore #7 in college but punter Jason Baker currently occupies that jersey. Maybe #2 can remind him of what round he was selected in. How does Jevan Snead fit ”undrafted” on his??

Georgia Head Coach Mark Richt must be almost in crisis mode with the nightmare situations going on at the QB position in Athens. After a 3-way battle looked likely for the starting gig this season, an alcohol and discipline problem saw Zach Mettenberger kicked off the team. And then there were two. But now reports out of Ga are that Logan Gray wants to discuss his future with Richt, leading to some speculation that he may seek transfer, or, need clarity on a position change. Gray spent some time at WR last season. That leaves Aaron Murray as the starter by default and not a comfortable position of depth for Georgia. Expect some heavy recruiting for 2011 at the position. Hard to believe that only a year ago Georgia were celebrating their QBs #1 Draft selection and the potential for QB recruiting power.

The Mater Dei pipeline continues for USC with Class of 2011 QB Max Wittek following Matt Barkley and Matt Leinart’s footsteps to the Trojans. Wittek suggested that the strong relationships formed with the new SC coaching staff and his familiarity with their work from QB guru Steve Clarkson’s tutelage aided his decision making process. The scary thing for Pac-10 opponents…his high school coach suggests Wittek could be ahead of his predecessors.

Tim Tebow will be a QB and only a QB in Denver according to HC Josh McDaniels. Many thought Tebow would have to play other positions to get him on the field, but McDaniels was adament. Read more from here.

Colt in Holster for 2010

April 25, 2010

Cleveland GM Mike Holmgren has stated that Colt McCoy will ride the pine in his development this year. Read more about it here.

Jamarcus Russell is on his way out in Oakland. Jason Campbell’s arrival has confirmed that. Is there any value for him? Not that I can see. Perhaps he can play guard somewhere…or maybe head north…to Cananda. There he could be a star.
